BTMU - Junior Portfolio Manager

I’m trying to determine if this role is more front-office Asset Management type work or middle-office risk.

The title is Junior Portfolio Manger (Analyst), group is portfolio management Group at Bank of Tokyo - Mitsubishi UFJ’s NYC office. Pay is $80k base + 30-50%.

Description: Junior corporate finance professional, supporting primarily investment grade or Industry vertical lending business. Critical function of assessing risk factors associated with a credit and determining appropriate rating based on established policies and guidelines. Responsible for supporting active credit management of a designated portfolio utilizing solid credit and analytical skills. Provide continuous oversight of portfolio names, monitoring for potential upgrading, downgrading and credit deterioration with the goal of maximizing net income and reducing credit costs.

Entry level position; up to 3 years experience; MBA or CFA up to 2 years.

If anyone is able to chime in, would be a big help.

"Critical function of assessing risk factors associated with a credit and determining appropriate rating based on established policies and guidelines."

"supporting active credit management"

That sounds like middle office to me. The job title implies front office but it should probably say portfolio administrator or even credit analyst/related. It doesn't sound like you'll have much input into the investments of the portfolio. I also can't imagine you'll have a salary less than 6 figures as a PM.
