Small AM

I was wondering what your guys’s thoughts r on stand alone asset managers (etf/mutual fund managers outside of a large manager like fido), I hve a couple of opportunities with smaller asset managers 1-5 bil aum) and I was wondering how you guys think the experience would compare to a larger shop? The actual fund size and team size is comparable to a single fund at a larger shop with many funds.

The PM is very willing to teach me at each shop, and I would be given a lot of direct responsibility. I am very confident in the learning experience, I was just wondering if you think the exits will be more limited if something happens in the future, or if people will understand and it does not matter. Thx

Personally - you've hit on a great opportunity. Take it and don't bother worrying about exit opportunities. If it's direct experience, with a PM who is willing to invest time into your development you are many steps ahead.

Asset Management is a small world - there's tons of small, niche names that people know and plenty of large ones that are absolutely meaningless. If you decide to exit, what will matter most is what you are looking to do - and the experience you have.
