Typical politics at LO funds?

I am curious if anyone could share what politics are like at large LO equities asset managers. Outside in, I see co-PMs on funds, portfolio analysts (senior and junior) assigned to funds, and centralized industry analysts (senior and junior) on the org chart. What are the do’s/don’t for each role to be successful in such a matrix reporting structure? Who does what for idea generation, meetings, etc? It seems very different than the HF world of PM + analyst on each name.
