Management consulting after master in economics?
I'm about to complete a master's degree in Economics from a pretty good school, and I had my bachelor in business admin but with lot of finance and economics in it. In my country (italy) is pretty much required a master to get a job, as bachelor is only 3 yrs, so master's is what 90%+ of people do after bachelor. I decided to get a master in econ mainly cause I was thinking of pursuing a PhD after that, but working as an RA I found this is not my path. So I basically came back to the plans I had before.
Do you think I'm still qualifiable for management consulting after economics? My program is pretty academic focused so there's of lot of "prejudice" against it.
I would also consider econ consulting, but from what I heard it does not have exit opportunities as good as management consulting
Why, hello ghost of Chritstmas past..
Shrot answer is, yes it's possible. I think Economics is our most represented subject at my MBB (in London). I did something similar to you, except I did go the PhD route, and now I am at MBB (with some other work experience here and there beforehand).
I assume you have internships / other work experience too somewhere on your CV, which is always a good thing to have to (a) send a signal that you can work and (b) show that you can succeed in a competitive environment that is not school.
I'd suggest looking into case prep and the consulting lifestyle / type of work (tons and tons of material online about that, just a quick google away).
As for econ consulting, it can be interesting, and certainly more anchored on data, but indeed exit opps won't be nearly as varied. Up to you and what you want to do later in life.
