Buy Side Equity Research

Hi all. I'm currently seeking some insight on what roles in Buy Side Equity Research entail, similar to those on offer at Susquehanna. The questions that mainly arise include:

  • How does Buy Side ER differ from traditional Sell Side roles?

  • What purpose do these positions serve when reports aren't being generated for external clients? Are reports mainly being prepared for traders?

  • Given SIG's options oriented business, what valuation models are primarily being used? (eg. Black Scholes, Binomial Distributions, Monte Carlo etc)

  • Do Buy Side roles allow one to specialise? (This especially interests me as it gives me an opportunity to fully leverage and explore the intersection between my two disciplines of study)

  • SIG specific but, what general areas are covered? Is it desk/office location dependant?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
