Statistics and Mathematics for Equity Research

Hi everyone,

I was reading on investopedia about equity research (https://www.investopedia.com/articles/professiona…). They say that "Having a background in statistics and mathematics is beneficial for equity research analysts". Why is this true if equity research is mainly about looking at financial and qualitative information (SEC filings, financial histories, etc). My follow up question would be, what type of statistics and mathematics is beneficial for equity research?

It’s beneficial in the sense that you don’t need a lot of math but no one wants to hire an analyst that’s terrible at it
