Buying multiple of the exact same button-up shirts or switching up the colors/designs

Seems like general advice here for incoming SAs is to get six button-up shirts (blues and whites) from a place like Charles Tyrwhitt. But if we get six shirts and only two colors, is it recommended to get multiple shirts of the exact same color (ie three solid white shirts and three solid blue shirts), or switch up the designs (with some shirts having stripes, others having grids, etc)?

For some reason, the concept of buying multiples of the exact same dress shirt in the exact same color seems foreign to me. I wouldn’t do this with a regular T-shirt, so I’m wondering what the logic is if people do it for button-ups. (Genuinely wondering, not trying to criticize anyone.)

I buy multiples of the same shirt/pants  b/c it simplifies my choices in the morning. I buy what I like and don’t have to worry about  things matching or what’s at the cleaners.

Someone who is more fashion oriented may enjoy putting together an outfit but at 4am, I’m more concerned with remembering to put on pants than the do’s and don’ts of wearing a bold striped shirt.

For most people, It's practical - you end up wearing something akin to a uniform anyway, so ensure you have multiples of it. The goal is to look put together, professional and that's about it in the office for the most part. Multiples of the same thing takes away one more decision, increases longevity of clothes, and it's damn hard to screw up an outfit with a white dress shirt. Find the brand you like and fits you well, and buy shirts whenever they are on sale. No right or wrong answer here - I tend to have more variety in shirts, less variety in pants or suits (i.e. blue, grey, tan, etc. w/o patterns).

There's a lot written about this, but using your limited will power and decision making on the little things daily eats away at you over time. Especially as you start to add in more and more responsibilities, it compounds really fast if you aren't mindful of it. Dress is often the easy one for people, especially men, to simply automate. White shirt, grab pants, shoes, belt, done.

Anyway - enough about this. You get the point.
