Buyside intern dress code

Been interviewing with both sell side and buy side (over webex/zoom of course). All of the BB/EB people wore a jacket or a tie and the buy side interviewers wore pullovers with tshirts. I was fortunate to get an offer from one of the buy-side firms. Should I dress like everyone else to blend in? Or a bit formal to show that I am serious about this opportunity?

Wear a pullover with a dress shirt - yes you will be a hardo, but some people like to see the extra effort

Every time dress code comes up on this forum, it's a point of controversy. The fact that there is controversy indicates that some people care, some don't. Appease those who care, and those who don't care... well.. no problem! They don't care!

Good luck with your internship.

What I did this summer was dress formal the first couple of times and then started to tone it down. Always wore a sweater or solid color blouse/shirt (i'm a girl) but was still better dressed then the mds and analysts in their williams hockey shirts, red hot chilly pepper shirts, and tanktops. About half the analysts were wearing michigan hats at any time.

If I were you, show up formal and then adjust from there. If everyone is wearing t-shirts switch to a polo, pullover, or a dress shirt but not a jacket and tie. Try to be slightly better dressed than them. You don't want to be that one weird guy sitting in his house wearing a suit and tie while everyone else looks ready to head to the gym.
