Unvented Suits - No go?

What's everyone's views on no-vent suits? I've got a few jackets with double vents yet I just got a hand-me-down from my dad who's the same size. Little did I realize that it was a no-vent jacket, but it still fit me well. If I'm not mistaken, many Italian men have preferred the unvented jacket (likely for helping with relatively short height). In my case, the jacket fits very well, but I noticed no-vent jackets get a lot of hate. Is it a sin to wear them to the office?

No, never... ever! And many Europeans actually use double vents. Also, are you inferring that Italians are short?

I didn't directly mean to infer that Italians are short but meant that tailors did this to help with short height.

At the obvious risk of being thrown shit at, I really like them. For slim guys or guys with a really shaped figure, I think they look fine.

I've felt that the unvented (when fitted very well) wraps nicely around the torso and looks more elegant than the double. Some people (not me) really get irritated by the flaps hanging around your ass.

You can make a vented into an unvented but not the other way around. No matter how good your tailor is, he/she can't make a vent with not enough fabric!

That, and nobody in their right mind would turn a vented suit into an unvented one. Tailor would probably tell you to screw off for even asking if he had half a mind.

Also, you are incorrect. You cannot make an unvented into vented, but can make vented into unvented if you were so inclined. The vents on normal suits have to be overlapped, usually between one and two inches. Goes against conventional intuition, but a quick Googling will render answers from much more knowledgeable parties.

That's what I said above. You can make a vented ventless but not the other way around... Clearly I was correct.

just picked up 2 suits from brooks brothers factory. Went to my local italian tailor(who was recommended by a wall street guy) and he wanted to take out the single vent and make it vent-less. i was a little hesitant but went for it. I liked the look by i am far from slim. broad shoulders bigger build. I feel like it will not be a problem but I am still on the edge about it. I just do not want to look outdated when i start work next week....any thoughts? ( I just went this thurs so i could go back and get it fixed no problem)

If you like the look, ignore the hate other people are giving to you. I do wear an unvented jacket to work and people were actually asking me about it (not in a bad way at all). If the fit is good, why not?
