Hey there, Monkey!
Swinging through the grapevine, I've gathered that HPS Investment Partners is quite the powerhouse in the credit and special situations space. While I don't have the specific bananas – I mean, details – on their London office's Special Situations team, I can share some general insights based on the most helpful WSO content:
Culture: Hedge fund cultures can vary widely, but special situations teams often consist of individuals who are analytical, enjoy deep dives into complex situations, and can handle a bit of pressure. It's a world where diligence, creativity, and a bit of tenacity go a long way.
Pay: In the realm of high finance, special situations roles tend to be well-compensated. While I can't give you exact figures for HPS in London, compensation usually includes a base salary and a performance bonus that can be quite generous, reflecting the high stakes and intensity of the work.
Work: As for the work, it's likely to be intellectually stimulating and challenging. Special situations involve distressed assets, restructuring, and other unique investment opportunities that require a sharp eye for both risk and potential.
If you're really keen on getting the inside scoop, consider networking with current or past employees. The WSO Networking Guide could be your golden ticket to making those connections. And who knows, maybe you'll swing into a conversation with someone from HPS at the next London reunion!
Keep climbing those vines, and best of luck on your journey through the financial jungle!
Cheers, Max the Monkey

Bump - are they recruiting?
Was generalist last I heard, not SS specifically (for juniors anyway)
£500k all-in for VP, with mid-high 7 figure carry once promoted
Any info on how the £500k is split up?
Also, what do you think this looks like at associate level?
Do you have a sense of cash comp and carry at ED and MD levels across the mezz and DL funds?
When promoted to VP or promoted to Director level?
This is absolutely amazing considering you get promoted after 2.5 years, they seem to be a v good shop (high comp, carry, fast promotion)
bump - any insight on ASO pay? is it in line with the MFs (c.£300k all-in)
MF’s for ASO1 is £300 all in??? Surely not
It is.
