(AUS) B. Commerce vs Commerce + Law
Question is basically the title. For people in australian unis looking to get into IB, can you do so with the B. Comm only? Or do you sort of have to do Comm and Law together to get in?

Law will give you more time (5y degree) which is helpful. Your are a year older come summer analyst applications, and have more time to get internships.
Most bankers in Aus (of this generation) have done Comm Law. Most hated it and never use it.
Law is hard to get marks and nobody really cares that you have done it. It’s better to have a higher mark doing straight Comm IMO.
I think you have to look at things this way, Go8 graduates about 30k Comm students every year. UTS, QUT, Griffith, UTas etc probably do another 15k. To employers a UNSW BComm is only marginally more desirable than a BComm from QUT. So by going Comm alone you're putting the burden on yourself to differentiate, through grades, internships etc.
By doing Comm Law you already differentiate yourself from the 45k Comm students down to a group of maybe 2/3k Comm Law students. Your degree will also be more attractive by its own right as you have more time doing relevant courses if you are deliberate in doing so (i.e. dont take a land rights course over securities law). You also open up more employment opportunities on the law side of things if you decide that's a path you want to follow.
The one caution is its 2yrs more of your time and money and if you do enter finance you will likely never use 80% of the law side of your course.
The question should really be are you confident in your ability to secure internships and achieve top WAM/GPA. If yes, Comm is good enough and will get you where you need to be as fast as is possible. If no, I'd probably lean heavily towards Comm Law
