Best way to get internships?
I'm currently a junior with no relevant experience at a non target trying to break into banking. I'm new to this process so any input would be greatly appreciated. What is the best way to get a relevant internship? LinkedIn? Cold emailing? Also what should I be targeting? Search funds? Small hedge funds?
Target small shops in your region and start from there. If you’re currently a junior it’ll probably be tough to land something in time for this summer. Search funds will probably be your best bet. Over your senior year, make sure to lock down internships during both the winter and spring at small regional shops.
I think that given your current profile and standing, breaking in right out of grad will be tough. Everyone’s advice is different, but I’d personally throw front office hopes out of the window for the time being and grind really hard to land an audit/risk/other “back office job” at a reputable name. You can then use that to potentially pivot into an MBA —> IB or try to lateral.
