Job Preparation - 1st year IBD Analyst

Hello all,

Starting full time as an analyst at a MM boutique in June. Wanting to make sure I can hit the ground running when I start.

My background: economics undergrad and finance masters (corp banking and PE internships)

Areas of concern: more complex financial accounting topics that are commonly used/seen in IB.

Proficiency’s: Valuation, ppt, excel, CapIQ.

Questions:

  1. What resources do you recommend I use to polish up on my accounting skills? What accounting questions seem to cause the most issues for 1st year analysts?

  2. What resources do you recommend to brush up on my project finance, LBO, and merger modeling skills?

  3. What are your most useful tips for increasing workflow efficiency? (Most used shortcuts, applications, tools)

  4. To seniors: what makes a good analyst? What makes a bad analyst?
