No summer internship for 2024

Hello everyone,

I'm currently a junior who recently transferred to an Ivy League school as an international student. I was unaware of how early the recruitment process for consulting and investment banking SA internships begins in the U.S., particularly this year. As a result, I find myself without an internship for the upcoming summer, which has me quite concerned.

I'm considering applying to internships in London/Tokyo offices as an alternative, since they are still open. However, I'm uncertain if this is the best path forward.

I would greatly appreciate any insights, advice, or experiences you might share regarding late applications, the feasibility of interning in London, and how it might be perceived by future employers in the U.S / U.K.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Thank you for your reply. I found out that some BBs and consulting firms are still open to applications for summer internships in 2024. However, I haven't taken part in any insight or spring week programs for U.K. offices, which I've heard can be important for securing summer internships in London. Given this, would you recommend I still apply to these opportunities now, or would it be more advisable to focus on preparing and applying for next year?

Literally apply to anything and everything you find open now, it can't hurt - worst thing that can happen is they say 'no'. For me, I applied to something late and I thought I had no shot, but ended up with interviews and got an offer.

Spring Weeks/insight events help, but aren't a prerequisite. I didn't have them but I still got internships at Bulge Bracket banks in investment banking.

Do both, focus on next year but also apply to whatever is still open. Leverage whatever experience you have into trying to get an internship.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I read on Wall Street Oasis that many London offices consider final-year students for their SA roles. In this case, would I need to delay graduation as is sometimes required in the States?

This is a tad unrelated but do banks not sort of catch on to this and use it against you? Simply because you’ve had fill in your graduation date in the SA application the year before. Surely the banks you’re applying know youve applied before?

Not something I have experience with, but I would imagine if you can give justification for why you're pushing back your graduation date (adding a minor, change in study plans, etc.) there wouldn't be any issue. Someone else can chime in if they have personal experience
