What are my chances, and what else do i need to do.

Hi everyone, Almost two years ago, I reached out for help on WSO, and I am very grateful for what turned out to be great advice.

I am now a 3rd year pure maths and economics (majoring in finance) student at UNSW. I have an 89 WAM and 96 finance WAM. I am looking to get into IB. I am in my penultimate year next year.

So far, I have one year of audit experience at RSM and a short trading internship, and I will be interning at ANZ for institutional banking this summer.

Given my grades and experience, do I still need more experience to apply successfully for a summer internship at a BB in Sydney or Singapore, assuming that I network appropriately?

Hey there, fellow finance enthusiast! It sounds like you're doing a fantastic job so far. You've got a strong academic record and some solid experience under your belt.

In the world of investment banking, there's always room for more experience, but it's not just about quantity. It's about the quality of your experiences and how well you can articulate them. Your audit experience at RSM, trading internship, and upcoming stint at ANZ for institutional banking are all valuable and will definitely help you stand out.

Networking is indeed crucial. It's not just about getting your resume out of the stack, but also about showing potential employers that you're someone they'd want to work with. So, keep up the good work on that front!

Remember, every bit of experience you gain is not just a line on your resume, but a potential talking point in an interview or a networking event. It's about the skills you've gained, the insights you've gleaned, and how you've grown as a professional.

So, to answer your question, you're on the right track. Keep gaining experience, keep networking, and when the time comes, apply for those summer internships with confidence. You've got this!

But if you wanted to further improve your profile you could look at a boutique IB internship or something investing related early next year before applications close. I’m also assuming you’ve got some extra curricular experience you can talk about, if not that’s also worthwhile.
