career cross-roads/move from PE to tech company

I'm querying the hive mind, to see what people might suggest for directions, as I'm at cross-roads.

After 10 years post MBA my career has stalled and I'm needing to jump-start it, and redirect to things I care about more. I want to take my career in a more tech/company-building direction.

In the past 10 years I have been in PE (both general PE and real estate PE), all of it in China.

I don't like PE much. It involves sitting alone in a room and evaluating deals, but not actually doing much building.

I prefer building things. I liked tech.

What are the ways a 40-year-old finance guy can get into the Silicon Valley scene at this stage, esp. with limited experience there?

I did spend some time as deputy CFO of an NYSE-listed mobile Internet SaaS company, I helped to build a cleantech company from startup to IPO, and have a co-founder credit on a smaller company. I also invested in a number of tech companies on my own PA.
