switching locations after sa
hi, i'm a current junior at a west coast school who has accepted an eb tech offer for sa 2024 in the bay area. however, all my family is on the east coast, and I feel like I only recruited on the west coast because most of my peers were doing the same. College is one thing, but I don't really want to be away from my family when I start working full time, so I want to some how get to NY for full time.
I want to ask the bank to transfer to east coast after SA - I've seen some people transfer from west coast or midwest to ny, but not too many - idk what the best way or time is to even ask about this. Would it make sense to make my intentions known relatively early on, or wait until after getting a return offer (assuming I do) to say what I want. Also I do not care what group I get placed to on the east coast - getting to nyc is the most important to me.

General consensus - this is quite difficult to do as most people in regional ofices want to go to NY, and deciding you want to be on the east coast is not really a compelling enough reason. It will piss off your current group and they may pull your offer, so be ready to go back into FT recruiting if needed.
Definitely wait until you get the offer to raise it, but can and should network with NY groups during the internship.
My advice - do 1 year FT and then switch internally. This is typically much easier transfer and you're not risking losing the offer altogether. Otherwise, consider getting the offer and then using the ~2 weeks you have to accept it to recruit externally (so you're not jeopardizing your offer)
that makes sense. idk was kinda just keeping my hopes up because ive seen a few people make that jump on linkedin.
as for networking with the nyc branch, how should i approach it? i'm assuming i don't want to make my intentions overt but i feel like i need to say what i want to do as well.
