Denver
Thinking of making the move to Denver with my wife. We are in our mid 30s and looking for a house under 1.2-3mm or so. Wondering if there are any nice areas in good school districts not too far from the airport?
I hear boulder is fantastic but apparently it's a pain to commute to DT when the weather is bad.
Any details on the city would be most appreciated. Thx
Probably cherry creek. I like golden but it’s closer to mountains / farther airport if that is a priority. Also check broomfield, Lafayette, Westminster areas. ~20-25 min drive to downtown. Boulder is too far from downtown imo (35 min-45 min w traffic). Rush hour traffic on I-25 / 36 is terrible.
Thanks! Super helpful. I am also interested in the move to Denver. Do you find it to be a 'safe' city or are there definitely areas to avoid? I'm coming from somewhere pretty 'safe' so not sure how Denver compares.
Lot of areas to avoid. The issue with Denver is it’s been heavily gentrified in many areas leading to 2-3m+ homes right next to dumps. Areas of Downtown is the meth zone - lot of tent cities with a lot of sketchy people / public defecation / needles on the street. Do not live on federal blvd or colfax. Colfax is worse than federal and would avoid at all costs. Another area for you to consider is Littleton and Morrison areas. Farther from downtown, nice suburban life. No crackheads. No one really lives in dowtown Denver… closest to downtown nice areas would be LoHi but this is much younger are and don’t recommend if you have kids. There’s actually a couple of older threads on here that comment on Denver and are still pretty accurate.

Got here back in August. I live in west Denver and love it. Didn’t wanna live downtown bc that’s not my vibe, and sure am glad I picked the burbs so I’m closer to mountains. Downtown is full of homeless folk and tent cities. Why am I gonna pay $2k+ a mo. for a shack only to walk outside and see the homeless? No thx.
West Denver burbs are nice. I live near an. RTD and can get to Union Station on the train in ~15m ($6 for a day pass on RTD). Like someone else mentioned, there’s also Broomfield and Westminster which are cool, too. If I didn’t love my place/rent/roommates, I’d move to Boulder in a heartbeat. Or Golden. If you live in Boulder, there’s a bus you can take from Boulder to downtown for $5/day and takes 25-30m. Buddy of mine at work does this and said it makes his life so much easier.
I think part of this depends on what you value — being in the city (which, if you’re a city person, is gonna disappoint compared to SF/NYC/Chi/LA) or closer to mountains. I picked the burbs so I’d be closer to the mountains. 20ish min from the foothills and ~60 from the Front Range here. Living in Boulder you’re even closer — one of my best friends who lives in Boulder is 45m door-to-door to get to RMNP.
I could go on and on lol. Tl;dr is avoid the city if you have high expectations for a city, pick the burbs if you (like most ppl here) are here for the mountains. Happy to answer any other questions you may have. I love it here.

I would second Arvada close to Old Town. You can walk to the train station and it will drop you right downtown. Easily hop on 70 to get into the mountains. Train can take you from downtown to the airport as well if you don't want to fight the traffic.
I will also reiterate that Denver is all about the outdoors. Restaurants aren't great and most people you meet will have lifestyles that revolve around going into the mountains most weekends.
Some other good spots are Cherry Creek, Wash Park, Lakewood, Highlands Ranch, and Morrison. Golden is also really cool too and the train can get you into downtown.
Hilltop neighborhood is very nice and is not too bad of a drive to airport.
It looks like no matter where you live in/around Denver, the commute to the airport is terrible lol
Yup pretty much. I will say that greenwood village may not be a bad area for you if you do need to fly a lot as I225 is right there and will dup you on the northside of the Tech center.
I live near Cherry Creek, if you want to be in town then Cherry Creek, Park Hill, and Wash Park are your best bets. In terms of nearby suburbs, probably best to avoid Lakewood, Aurora, Commerce City unless you really do your research on the specific area where a house is located. The further out suburbs are generally nice.
