Explain "Turo" to me. How is letting poor people wreck your BMW a "business"?

The Turo subreddit is 90% full of double digit IQ morons trying to get rich quick by taking out multiple auto loans to start a "fleet" of old BMWs and Mercedes. They then rent them to assorted poor teenagers and 20 somethings who total them trying to impress their friends.

There's inherently a massive selection problem, especially with luxury branded cars. Normal professional people aren't clamoring to rent 2013 Audis. When their actual Audi is in the shop they just go to Enterprise because who gives a shit. So you just end up with white trash proles and ghetto minorities.

It seems like a godawful business both from Turo's perspective AND the "contractors". There's no way that these people have meaningful enough utilization rates to make a real business out of it. And the second Jamal tokyo drifts into a lightpost at the illegal street race block party you're fucked, Turo insurance or not.

Rented a convertible Porsche on Turo when the wife and I did Napa/Sonoma. I got a great deal and it was cheaper than getting a Honda Civic at Enterprise. We went in the off season so the host was willing to negotiate a bit more. I can see myself using it more, but could never be a host on it.

The turo host told me he's lost so much money on damages. He said turo insurance is shit and they have rarely ever paid out a claim. I think the business model is very sound, but in order for this to work, they need to really address damages and make sure hosts are made whole.
