obviously when I gave you the numbers, i didn't just pull them outta my ass. i go to a target school where alums work in your dream PE shops. I asked around and got my answer for you...dbag
From the guys in my old group and personally, we all got around $80-$90k base with a pro-rated $150-$200k bonus (I joined closer to the end of the year).
Edit: These are not your traditional MM type funds even though I'd consider them "MM" in size.
HerSerendipity, that bonus seems a little high for the MM type funds I know.
For 1st year MM PE analysts this year (1 year out of undergrad) it was 60K base + 5 K signing + 45K end of year for the past year. So 110K all in. In line with IB/research/S&T and other front-office roles - I think the income divergence becomes larger after 2-3 years.
This is for 1st year analysts?

1st year MM associates ~90k base + 90k target bonus. some funds are now also giving associates some token carry / phantom carry
...but that was last year so these may be coming down...
Yeah, like I said, these are not the traditional MM funds. I'm at more of a sector focused one so I think what I receive is not the norm. I did 1.5 years in banking and I am considered an 'associate' at this firm(there are no analyst titles but I'm not trying to fool myself, I'm an analyst). No forced exit to b-school and carry after our first year.
Pretty sure HerSerendipity was referring to 1st year analyst post 2 year IB stint
Spinner's range is on point based on personal experience 90-100 base with ~80-100% bonus, id imagine that there is decent variation in comps across these types of shops but in this environment I wouldn’t expect comp to decline as significantly as in IB since PE comps are bolstered by existing management fees, without any portfolio exits in the foreseeable future (and continued portfolio company deterioration) I would imagine that comp would continue to decline in PE, not to mention all the potential tax regulations that may take effect over the next 18 months
Yeah, the numbers that spinner mentioned are pretty similar to what we get at our firm. Bonuses last year were not so good though because of fund performance, and our base this year is the same as last year's. What about the rest of you guys?
JBS is right. I was referring to numbers for post-analyst stint.
So these are after 2 years of experience or right out of college?
The numbers above $80-100k base/bonus are about right. The offer I accepted was bigger than that range on base but smaller on bonus (great thing in this environment). I also will be working between 50-60 hrs a week. Based on the analysts in my class, my offer is right around market. Firm has $2+ billion AUM.

Relax London. Congrats on going to a target and having a great alumni network. I'm proud of you and your summer internship. And thanks for your help.

also at MM PE making 100 base + 80-100 target bonus + $1k per $mm sourced (i.e., $20k if I source a $20mm deal. Check size range $20mm-$100mm). About 6mos in. Wondering what increase in base+bonus people got for second year associate position and senior associate position.
Thanks in advance.
2nd-year: 100k base + 100k target bonus + additional phantom carry vesting
I'm somewhat curious myself. For those select few who have received offers this year for MM funds - since my fund is not hiring this year I'm interested to know what the market compensation has reset to.
So for arguments sake what is comp for a first year pre-MBA associate at a 2-4BN AUM fund these days?
What's your fund profile? And you're looking at 200K all in as a second year, is that flat or up from last year?
But regardless I'm more interested in what offers are being made now for summer 2009 and summer 2010 starts.
GameTheory,
The numbers I threw out above are for Summer 09 start.

So a ~2BN-ish AUM fund is still giving comp of about 200, give or take. That's not bad.
