How get into Private Equity with a non finance background?

I’m doing my Bachelor in real estate (b.eng.)

-> If the wanted Job is to be a Real estate Private equity Analyst

What are the best Steps to get into it with this background?

Real estate aquisitions/ investment / asset Management internships…?

REPE is one of those jobs that is attainable straight out of undergrad given that you have networked enough to have an "in" and have shown previous experience in real estate with internships or campus involvement. Another route for those with less experience is the sell-side to buy-side role where you work in investment sales or debt/equity at a brokerage for a couple years then lateral into a REPE firm.

Do you know any examples? I've been trying to land a job to get experience but I haven't had any success. I've been focusing on real estate in general and brokerage (with some finance) stuff. I've applied to places like JLL, CBRE, JP Morgan, etc but I can't get in for some reason.

I would try to break in with a smaller firm (C&W, Berkadia, among others). CBRE, JLL, and Eastdil often have higher barriers to entry, and often times you will have far less responsibility and more hours than a smaller firm. How much have you been networking? I've come to find many of these run very lean and positions are filled mostly through word-of-mouth. I actually landed a brokerage role with zero RE experience purely because I cold-emailed several MD's and there just so happened to be a position open.

Another alternative is obtaining your ARGUS certification. That little line on my resume alone has gotten me past the HR screen numerous times, which is honestly the hardest part.

Now is the best time to be applying, many of these lesser known firms have crazy deal flow and are hiring as many bodies as they can.
