Joseph Wharton Scholars
I'm an incoming freshman at Wharton and was invited to the Joseph Wharton Scholars program. Is anyone familiar with the program, and does it matter at all for IB or buyside placement after graduation? Students in JWS have to stay in Hill, and I'm not sure if it is worth the trade-off if it doesn't have much of an impact on placement.
Nah. Still put it on on your resume tho.
Thanks.
I'm over a decade out so I don't know the program has changed but I loved Hill (didn't have to live there as a JWS back then) and a lot of my close Wharton friends were from the program. Some of the courses and seminars were pretty interesting, too.

It's not a huge value add for IB / PE recruiting tbh - I graduated from the program recently. None of my meaningful connections to upperclassmen came from the program and they've generally tried to stray away from acting as a feeder for IB / PE. There were a few treks to IB / PE shops but there are plenty of other clubs at W / Penn that do a much better job prepping you and providing you a finance network.
What I found helpful was a) the ability to get into honors sections of classes, which are tougher but generally more interesting versions of the core classes and access to certain seminars and b) doing my thesis (in ACCT / FNCE), and was asked pretty in depth questions on it during PE interviews - it let me show off an in depth understanding of a very niche topic. Would note you don't need to be in JWS to do a thesis, but I probably wouldn't have done one unless I was in the program, and I'm glad I went through with it. Would also note the program director (Utsav) is amazing.
I don't think having to live in Hill for year is at all a negative tho and if that's your only hesitation, I'd encourage you to stick with the program. I had plenty of friends who ended up preferring Hill over the Quad even after thinking they'd prefer the Quad.
