University of Miami MSF

Hey, monkeys!

I just graduated from the University of Florida with a 3.75 GPA in political science. It goes without saying that this wasn't enough to break into IB, but the dream is still there. Because of some family connections, I have a chance at doing an MSF at the University of Miami for free/very little. It's a year-long program and I'd probably start next August. From what I've seen digging through old threads, it seems UM isn't very good for IB, but it places quite well in Miami PWM. Has this changed at all with Florida's recent popularity?

Right now, I'm working in software sales and really like it. The comp is good, although it isn't IB-tier. If I stay on, I'm looking at ~$80K for this year and ~$110-130K next year, so there is an opportunity cost despite the MSF being cheap for me. There's an online version of the MSF, which would allow me to continue working. I want a more technical degree because my soft BA is embarrassing, but I'd presumably sacrifice all the networking opportunities.

So, do I have a chance at IB with the MSF? If not, does it help with fintech gigs? Should I just work and do a T10 MBA if I'm still aching to go into finance? I'm Latin American with EU citizenship, so my long-term goal is to split my time between Miami and London/Madrid.

Not worth it. The in-person MSF might connect you to the UM network, which really isn’t cut out for banking. The online one is next to useless. If you’re dead set on finance, you’re gonna need to aim for a more prestigious MSF or just do an MBA in a few years. I’d advise you to reconsider, though. Your como is pretty good and you don’t have to deal with NYC COL or taxes.
