Barclays S&T ny - which desks are the best?

Coming in as an intern, and don't know much about which desks to target. I like macro analysis more, and think I could be good at more technical roles, but not sure if trading is for me, as I am not that fast with numbers.

Overall, I enjoy building models and applying theory in practice. I Have some experience working with CLO models.

I am wondering which desks I should be targeting for long term plans. What expectations should I have when it comes to money and life-style, and how does those two progress as you go forward in your career? Do people often move to investment management or hf?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights that might help you:

1) If you're interested in macro analysis and technical roles, you might want to consider desks like Rates or FX. These desks often require a good understanding of macroeconomic factors and can be quite technical.

2) If you enjoy building models and have experience with CLO models, a Credit desk could also be a good fit. These desks often deal with complex financial products and require strong analytical skills.

3) In terms of long-term plans, it's important to remember that each desk can offer different opportunities. Some might offer more opportunities for advancement or higher earning potential, while others might offer a better work-life balance.

4) As for expectations regarding money and lifestyle, it can vary greatly depending on the desk and the bank. However, it's common for those in S&T to work long hours, especially early in their careers. The earning potential can be quite high, particularly if you're successful and move up the ranks.

5) Regarding career progression, many people in S&T do move to investment management or hedge funds later in their careers. This can often offer higher earning potential and more control over investment decisions.

Remember, these are general insights and the reality can vary depending on many factors. It's always a good idea to talk to people who are currently working on the desks you're interested in to get a better understanding of what it's really like.
