Exit from AM

I work as a Research Analyst for a small firm that manages fixed and equity index funds. My previous work was as a financial advisor for big broker firm so I know this was a fairly big leap.

Life has been good in that I have learned about the Northfield Optimizer and some due diligence. It has been 2.3 years since I started here and I want to learn more and so I have started the job search.

I have not had good luck getting calls for IB, PE, or other roles outside Research. What are the types or roles I should look for if I want to exit out of AM?

Why exit? Becoming a PM is a very difficult thing to do with a low probability, I would like to start earning more and leave the one horse town.
