GSAM vs Blackrock Summer Internship

I've got 2 offers from GSAM and Blackrock for a summer internship, not sure which one to choose (more in terms of company culture, prestige, network, and career growth). Since Blackrock I would argue is a way better AM but Goldman is well, Goldman.

Congrats on the offers! Both are fantastic opportunities. Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's important to consider a few factors when making your decision:

  1. Company Culture: Both firms have strong cultures, but they might differ in ways that could be important to you. For example, some people find one firm's culture to be more collaborative or more competitive than the other's.

  2. Prestige: Both Goldman Sachs and BlackRock are prestigious firms, but they have different reputations in different areas. Goldman Sachs is often seen as more prestigious in the broader finance industry, while BlackRock is known as a powerhouse in asset management.

  3. Network: Both firms will offer you the chance to build a strong network. However, the specific people you'll meet and the relationships you'll form can vary depending on the team and location of your internship.

  4. Career Growth: Both firms offer strong career growth opportunities. However, the specifics can depend on your personal career goals. For example, if you're interested in a career in asset management, BlackRock might offer more opportunities, while Goldman Sachs might be a better choice if you're interested in a broader finance career.

Remember, there's no right or wrong choice here. It's about what fits best with your career goals and personal preferences. Good luck with your decision!

So GS is for their QIS team, while Blackrock is for data & analytics. Very different types of work but I'd say that I would enjoy them both. More just curious about which firm is better to start a career in?

GS is their QIS team and BLK is data&analytics. I think GS is more prestigious than BLK but not sure if GSAM is regarded the same. And I've heard culturally BLK is more down to earth but GS has access to more talent/support.
