I think you're too early for the major firms as they have dedicated tracks (sophomore summer diversity, junior summer , etc) that lead to offers. They may have online workshops you can attend to learn and network. From a work standpoint, I would look at some local boutique type shops in your area and see if they would consider letting you work on research or some form of project work. This could be a very small shop (just a few people) who need hands to help deliver projects on time. Would be good experience and help you in recruiting later. Would also show you if you like client service work, research,e tc. I'd start there.

 

Look for some in Evanston or dt Chicago. Use linkedIn to find firms w alumni that you can try reaching out to. Like the other comment said, you are pretty young to be a fully fledged intern, but any work you can find will be good for your experience/resume.
