BC alumni or anyone with advice?

I want to go to Boston College, but I’m worried that I won’t have a path to PM/Consulting if I go. I know they have a really good IB pipeline, but I might not do IB. Anyone know anything about BC or have any experience or advice to give me? Thank you!

I'm currently at BC. Big 4 + LEK have a strong presence at BC, and MBB hires a few people every year. Obviously not as "target" as other schools, and most of the MBB offers come for full-time, but there is a path into consulting if you put the work in. BC will also help a lot with writing and presentation skills, as well as opportunities to demonstrate leadership with extracurriculars.

So yes there is a "path to Consulting."

I love BC so much, can't recommend it highly enough. Great location, academics, sports/tailgates, extracurricular opportunities. I'm new to WSO so I don't know how this site works but if you are able to PM me I can give you more specific advice.

Other commenter is kinda right about the social life (we're not Penn State) but I've still had lots of fun at house/dorm parties and out in Boston. All depends on being social, joining clubs, etc. And to be clear, to the extent that the social life struggles, it's a technical problem, not about the eagerness of BC students to be social — Boston bars tougher on fakes, no frat houses, etc. BC kids are very "work hard, play hard," so if you are into that you can access it.

Went to BC, Consulting culture is big there and if you grind hard, ive seen multiple people per class pull MBB. As the other commenter said, Big 4 and LEK also recruit heavily. Plenty of opportunities to do case competitions, etc,.

Thanks! That’s good to know. Are there any serious drawbacks one should consider before going?

The school can be pretty cliquey and geared towards rich northeastern folks where it draws a majority of its students. I went there and it wasn't as fun as it could have been because Boston is strict on alcohol and everyone lives on campus but that being said I really enjoyed it looking back, part of me just wishes I went to a state school / notre dame where the culture is more rewarding to social life but state schools wouldn't have the same job ops.
