How is internal consulting perceived?

Hi all,

I am currently in Big 4 MC and have an offer to join as an internal consultant in Strategic Operations division of an FS client.

The salary bump is very attractive but besided that I don't know how good of an exit opp internal consultancy is? What would career advancement and exit opps after that look like? Is it considered as not "real" consulting because it is in-house and not client facing?

It isn't really consulting, it's more of internal strategy (these are typically interchangeable). If you like the company, it can be a good way to get exposed to higher ups in different parts of the business, but don't think it's going to be the same as how open-ended exits are when you exit consulting

Very common exit opp from consulting, but it is an exit opp from consulting

Agreed with the above, currently work in internal consulting (done both data analytics and project management) at a BB. It pays well, the hours are nice. However it usually is the exit opp, and is also at risk of being first cut in the event shit hits the fan. I also don't see a whole lot of trajectory from it, hence why I'm trying to get out. But all in it's not a bad gig, just depends on what you're looking for.

Would an internal strategy/consulting internship be viewed on the same level as a regular stat consulting one when applying for FT?
