MBB & T2 - what firms would you consider?

Hey all,

I'm currently preparing my applications for a short internship between my Masters and Bachelors.
I know that its a highly contested topic, which firms do count as T2 and which don't, but Ill try it anyways:
I'm quite confident that I will get into a T2 consulting firm. I specialized a bit in tech and I am applying for US, CA, AU, GB, DE (in that priority).
Those are the firms I am looking to apply to:

MBB:

  1. McKinsey
  2. BCG
  3. Bain

"Tier 2":

  1. Accenture
  2. Arthur D Little
  3. Booz Allen
  4. Kearney
  5. L.E.K.
  6. Oliver Wyman
  7. Roland Berger
  8. ZS

Are there any that are missing? Any that I should not consider? And do you have any experience with how more difficult it is to intern in those countries with a German passport?

Thank you in advance!

Not to shoot your hopes, but I highly doubt any of these companies will take you in their US or GB office unless you go to university there.

It's just a headache, harder to convert you to full-time (which is the goal of the internship for the business, ultimately) given visa needs. And frankly, unless you're a genius (no offense again, but if you were you probably wouldn't be posting this kind of thing on WSO) they can find a carbon copy of you if not better at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge, UNSW, Waterloo, McGill, etc...  think about it from a HR / labor market perspective.

I would shoot for DE only if you're a student in DE or whatever country you're a student in

For reference, in my large NA office, there are no interns from non-US universities this summer

no comment on tiering bc it's derivative

OW, LEK, RB and Kearney are the only T2s in your list. Accenture is in a comparable bucket to the Big 4. Booz is a legacy brand similar to but better than ADL. I'd say a tier 2.5/3. ZS is only healthcare so in a race of its own. Even within HC, I'd put it as a Tier 2/3 if you consider ClearView, LEK, Putnam as T1s. If you like tech, look at tech-specific firms like Altman Solon or comparable TMT boutiques.
