New-ish Grad Science/Pre-Med to Consulting

For background I graduated from undergrad(Tier 2 public school - full-ride) a little under a year ago two years early (I was 19) with a pure science degree and background. I have an intensive biology research background with now 3 years total of full-time experience under my belt. The past year and the upcoming year are my gap years where I am in full-time academic research (T5 school) before I (previously) planned on going to medical school. However, I am now I'm having second thoughts as my end goal is a career where I am financially successful rather than the usual altruistic purposes of becoming a physician. As such, I'm concurrently applying to medical school while also looking at management consulting as a possible career path instead.

My question is, can I successfully transition into management consulting from my current position? I applied to BCG as an experienced hire and although I was originally turned away, got a first round interview invite 3 weeks after the initial rejection. Very surprised as my background is extremely different and my resume formatting was not on-par with corporate ones. Was this a fluke or should I continue to apply to other top management consulting firms with a refined resume?

First, congratulations on the interview (and on passing the first round, I believe I saw that somewhere in another post). Second, I suppose it can happen. In my own experience, I got a rejection email before eventually landing my offer, but this was an IT error.

The initial invite to the online test had not been sent to me on time, so I enquired, they granted me a one week extension. However, on the Monday morning I received the automated rejection email from my first deadline. They sorted it out of course, but it can be an IT fluke based on automated processes sometimes.
