Part-Time MFin?
Wrestling with the idea of pursuing a 12-month MFin within Canada at Schulich, Laurier, or Queen's. Career-wise, I'd like to open the door to PE Consulting (A&M, Bain PEG, EY-P) long-term. Currently working in back-office corp. fin. from BComm background.
Pros:
- Great exposure to a new group of folks
- New opportunities for clubs, cases, & competitions
- Great career support services & alumni network
- Studying can be done at no detriment to career/money (like with FT programs)
Cons:
- Expensive; are sometimes seen as cash grabs for sub-par content
- No re-recruitment co-op placement unless I opt for FT MFin in UofT or 1.5/2year program
- Not as highly regarded as MBAs, nor as valuable as compared with their European counterpart
Anyone did this before?
Just in case this get's auto-sent to PE... MANAGEMENT CONSULTING, MANAGEMENT CONSULTING, MANAGEMENT CONSULTING - it's like beetlejuice, three times does the trick.
Try to swing a position at Big4 or Tier2 instead of your current Back Office one, and do the MBA in 2 years, then try for ur PE Consulting firms you mentioned when you're done.
