Depends, I recently attended a Steer Co where I engaged directly with the Head of Strategy of a Bank because his questions directly touched on my work stream. Other C-suite folks were on the Zoom (inc. CEO). For context I'm just an Associate Consultant, but I happen to know a lot about the question he had due to my previous experience.
However, in CDDs you tend to work with PE funds, and those only really care about the output, so typically you don't talk to them unless they are drilling your SM/EM/PL on a specific slide/figure that you owned.
