Struggling to find exits to corp strat / startups... Should I pursue an investment role that came my way?
Hey folks. I'm in my second year at a management consulting firm (think LEK, OW, Strategy&) and beginning to consider exit opportunities, but not having a ton of luck. My short-term goal is to end-up in corporate strategy or a startup role, with better WLB and comparable pay. However, my consulting experience is mostly industrials and tech (hardware and BtB software), and there aren't a ton of companies recruiting in NYC right now that align with my background.
I have an upcoming interview for an investment analyst role at a multi-billion dollar endowment fund, and I'm feeling conflicted. On one hand, it's not corporate strategy or a startup role. On the other hand, the pay is good, it supports a noble cause, and it would let me stay in NYC.
Should I wait out the market? Or would it be fine to do investing with an endowment fund for a few years before I try something else? I studied finance in school and I find markets interesting, but I don't necessarily want to pursue an MBA or CFA designation. My long-term goal is to found a startup or buy a small business.
