Transition from Strategy & CDD Consulting to IB/else

Looking for advice

For someone who has worked in strategy & CDD arm of top big 4 firm and coming from a target bschool in the country. What are the feasible exit ops and can IB be one of them? Given the candidate is also working towards CFA.

What is the most realisable exit ops from those commonly known like IB,PE, VC or step up in MBB or niche consulting firms.

Thank you for your help.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, transitioning from a strategy & CDD consulting role at a Big 4 firm to Investment Banking (IB) is indeed feasible, especially if you're coming from a target business school and working towards a CFA.

Here are some potential exit opportunities:

  1. Investment Banking (IB): This is a common transition, especially if you have a strong understanding of financial modeling and corporate finance. Your experience in strategy and CDD consulting could be valuable in an IB role, where you'd be involved in M&A transactions and capital raising.

  2. Private Equity (PE): While this transition might be more challenging, it's not impossible. Your consulting experience could be beneficial in a PE role, where you'd be involved in evaluating and executing investment opportunities.

  3. Venture Capital (VC): This could be a good fit if you're interested in working with startups and early-stage companies. Your consulting background could be useful in evaluating potential investments and advising portfolio companies.

  4. Stepping up in MBB or niche consulting firms: If you enjoy consulting, moving to a more prestigious firm or a niche firm that specializes in an area you're passionate about could be a great move.

Remember, these are just potential exit opportunities. The best path for you will depend on your interests, skills, and career goals. Good luck!
