Turn down an accepted offer

Hi everyone! I'm facing the situation that I've accepted the return offer from my summer internship (in US) a couple of weeks ago, but due to personal reasons as an international student I've just made the decision to return to my home country post graduation and would like to take the offer from another consulting firm there. I'm wondering if it will be a rare case to turn down an accepted offer, and what would be the best way to communicate with the recruiter regarding the situation?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Exactly, they have a percentage of students they expect to rescind, it’s nothing new for them

I agree with the the above, something very direct and short is the best way to handle this.

"Hello x

I appreciate the offer from Firm for the [Position], but due to personal reasons, I will no longer be in [Country]. I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause both yourself and the firm.

Thank you,
