Based on the most helpful WSO content, the UK Summer Analyst (SA) recruitment process can indeed involve case studies as part of the assessment. This is particularly true for consulting roles, as seen in the context of the McKinsey application process, where candidates mentioned preparing for case studies. In investment banking, the process may vary by firm, but case studies can sometimes be a component, especially in later interview stages or assessment centers where candidates are assessed on their ability to analyze and present on investment opportunities or business scenarios.
For instance, in private equity recruiting, which can be somewhat similar to investment banking in terms of the skills assessed, candidates have shared experiences of being caught off-guard by case studies, indicating that they are a crucial part of the process. They had to work through a case study and come up with a compelling investment recommendation using the information provided.
So, while not every firm may use case studies, and they may not be as prevalent as in consulting, it's wise for candidates to be prepared for them when applying for SA positions in the UK.

Yes, the strategy consulting firms all use case studies for internship applications. Usual process for London is:
1. CV + usually written questions/cover letter
2. Tests (usually sent out automatically after applying)
3. If successful in CV screening and the online tests, will be invited to first round interviews which include both fit and case interviews
4. Final round interviews
Thank you - my friend is interested also in the process for spring weeks if possible.
Thank you!
I was more interested in consulting so didn't really apply to many spring weeks. But from my memory it was similar:
1. CV + usually written questions/cover letter
2. Tests
3. HireVue (if you pass the tests you receive this automatically)
4. AC/Superday (although I think some banks may have a first round interview before this)
Sorry for the confusion - I meant specifically for consulting firms (I know Mckinsey and BCG both do them, not sure about Bain).
Is there a case involved?
Thanks = )
