ER Associate Raymond James
Hey everyone, I've made a few posts in the IBD forum, and I wanted your opinion on a job. I am a Univ. of Fla undergrad graduating this December with a 3.8 GPA and passed L1 of the CFA exams. Is this a good job for a kid out of undergrad? I've been looking over the threads and its seems to me that research is falling out of favor among the posters here. Is there any particular reason? Thank you, and let the sarcasm begin. . .
RJ is very strong in research. I have a friend that is there and loves it. You will be in Tampa and comp is pretty good. The BB will pay a little more but you may have to move to different area. Having passed level 1 will give you a slight heads up. I would also apply to all the ER groups on the street as well.
So far the BB that were at my university were only offering ops jobs and I would't want to get into that. Since UF isn't a target school . . . is it possible to get into ER up in NY?
more depending on what you want to go. You have to also mention what area you you would like to work in. The group focus could push you outside of NY. Do you just want to work in NY?
The experience of working in NY is something I would definitely like to do. Its not a deal breaker though. The ER position that I am hoping for is most likely in St. Pete. I'm from Orlando so thats kind of nice. I honestly don't know what area I would like to work in. Tech is always interesting . . . If you don't mind me asking, are you in ER? If so, how did you decide what area you would focus in.
Thank you again for your responses
PS. I don't know if this is useless info. I currently follow a few stocks out of interest: MO, KFT, SIRI/XM, YHOO the most right now.
Good Lord my computer reposted . . . sorry

If you can get into ER with Raymond James, you'll be doing pretty well for a UF kid.
Hahaha come on now. We are pretty smart. Yea, its mostly a sports/drunken debauchery school (I have some great stories of my own). . . which I am a part of. We are pretty smart but don't get much respect. Of the BBs that were there, all were ops jobs. The only jobs that I was interested in were from Raymond James (ER Assoc. and IB Analyst). I am hoping to God to get an interview. I think I will find out in the next day or so. Other than these jobs, theres just mostly crap ^*)#$ jobs that I hear are career death traps (yet because of the name students flock to these BB). One last question am I right in avoiding these ops jobs from BB?
not trying to hijack the thread... but this random story came to mind...
At my first internship --- one of the interns was handed a phone number and told to get Raymond James on the conference line. When reception picked up --- she asked if Raymond James was available.
Everyone in the room laughed out loud.
Poor girl.
Good news . . . I landed the interview for the ER associate position. That was a good feeling compared to the swift kick in the nuts I got this morning when I found out I didn't get selected for the IBD job at Raymond James. This is the job I really wanted to interview for.
I just wanted to know if you guys could offer me any tips prior to going into the interview. I was thinking I will pick a stock or two that they follow and be able to give my own opinion along with the stocks I follow in my own puny investment account. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hey, you post frequently on AF.com. How did your interview go? I hope things went well. Btw, I am in the same shoe
