Final Round Never Heard Back?

I had my final round with a boutique bank for an ER position. I spoke with a VP and the Analyst in charge of the team. Both conversations went well, nailed my technical questions (which were super industry specific), made both guys laugh, etc. I have not heard back in over three weeks now. Ten days ago I reached out to the HR person in charge of putting these interviews together to see if he could provide me with a timeline as to when I will hear back, and I have heard nothing from him either. Could they just still be screening other candidates and want to keep their options open, or did I just not get the job and they do not care to tell me?

I would appreciate any insight into this situation.

Unfortunately, agree with the above. While I'm on the other side of the wall, it's very common for boutiques to pick internal hires. However, I really want to press that this isn't a judgement on your ability, likeability, or resume. Boutiques, most but not all, have become a very thin business and as a result, they're risk-averse with hiring. This is mostly because  independent firms can't compete with the IB flow, execution ability, and coverage breadth of the BBs

That all being said, if you're passionate about working at a boutique (which is GREAT), I'd recommend you go out and gain some exp. at other firms. That could be in BBs, Management Consulting, or even corporate roles in your sector. Once you come back to the plate with some solid credentials, boutiques will start drooling at you.

Best of luck man, in the words of the immortal grass-head Seth Rogan "If you never quit, you just might make it. But if you quit, you certainly won't"
