Is MBA Worth It?
Hey guys, I’m thinking of getting an MBA in 2021 if I get into a top program. Want to get into CBS or Wharton. I’m currently working at a BB (think JPM, MS, GS) in Equity Research. I want to pursue an MBA to get a top buyside job in NYC. I’m not interested in a multi manager platform. I believe I can get a buyside job eventually by just continuing to get more experience and network without getting an MBA. What are your thoughts? Is the MBA worth it or just keep working in my current role?
ak3534, sorry about the lack of response. Maybe one of these topics will help:
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
If you want to stay buy side asset management, probably not worth it. The MBA does open a number of other doors, even after you move to the buy side.
If you got into any of the top 10-15 programs, chances are it'll be worth it. On top of greater variety of career paths with fairly constant pay progression at firms that are larger enough to hire MBAs, don't discount the alumni network. The latter is golden if you wanted to career switch or change firms.
