Lehman ER Interview
whats the best way to prep for an interview for a summer internship with Lehman ER? around 3000 people apply and there are only 7 spots so it will be very competitive... any tips/advice?
also, do you think mostly juniors will be interviewing or sophomores too? im a sophomore at a target and will be getting the interview through a connect
Summer internship interviews already?!?
7 Spots for a summer class?!?
Is this some sort of joke? Or maybe this is a sophomore ONLY program...
If this is legit, I can probably help you - shoot me a PM.
ER summer classes are really low - probably the most competitive b/c summer interns in ER have little use and aren't dependable enough to eff with the models.
what does ER stand for, I never heard the term.
never mind, i am an idiot.
I can say for a fact that summer classes for research tend to be smaller, though I'm not sure if more competitive would be accurate given the lower popularity of the division right now.
For the most part, preparing for interviews for ER is going to be pretty similar to IB, except the interviews itself will probably focus more on investments than corporate finance, i.e. how well do you know the market, can you talk intelligently about stocks, how to do financial forecasts, etc. Research is a bit different in that they also expect a certain level of writing ability.
Sure, I agree with this.
how much do you think an ER internship at lehman would pay? is it anything like SA?

I have an equities research final round with Lehman coming up. What should I prepare for? What are some good interview tips? I really want the position, so I do I make it come off that I do?
so how* do I make it come off that I really want the position.
Lehman Interview Process (Originally Posted: 01/04/2008)
I just found out today that I have an interview with Lehman Brothers for a summer internship on Monday and have some questions that I couldn't answer using the search function.
The interview is going to be with one very high level managing director, senior VP, and an analyst. Before I start asking questions I'll give a little background. I go to a definite non-target state school, with an average GPA(3.6-3.7), double major (finance & economics), decent work experience and ecs. I had contacted this MD directly (not going to say how) and his assistant called me and arranged the interview.
Now here are my questions- Where in the interview process am I? First round is usually conducted by HR I thought and aren't superdays usually more interviews then just 3 rounds? The group I am interviewing with is equity capital markets. I looked over the Lehman website and it is listed under investment banking division. Is this ECM group going to have substantial work or is it more of a liaison group like I have read some people call it?
I would appreciate any other information that you think might be useful.
Or did you move all the way to this. Usually I thought Lehman did a firmwide recruiting process first
I went straight to this. There is the possibility that this is just an informational interview, but from the sound of it, I am pretty sure it is an actual interview. Maybe the MD was impressed by me for some reason. On a side note though, I did receive an email from HR asking me for some more information a couple days ago. The HR had gotten my resume from someone else in an entirely different group.
If it's that many people, I really really doubt that it's just an "informational interview." MDs don't have time for that. As for where you are in the interview process, well, definitely past the first on-campus or phone round. It's not clear whether that's a superday or not. You're right that usually they do involve more people, but sometimes for summer internships it's a shorter process with fewer people since you're not seen as a "permanent" hire. This is probably something you'll find out at the interview on Monday. I don't see how it can last much beyond 1 additional interview after this, though.
The role of ECM varies by bank... in general it is less work and better hours than M&A groups and industry groups, as they usually just do the work on selected parts of a pitch/deal process. Sometimes PEs don't like to recruit as much from ECM groups because they want people who have done more M&A or debt deals.
Don't read anything above into your internship, though - it's a great opportunity and you can easily get FT offers at other places/groups if you do well there.
I know that Lehman is starting an early round interview process for those kids studying abroad next week. Couple of my friends are helping out.
