Move from GS/MS/JP to UBS/DB/CS
Hi guys,
I am currently employed at GS/MS/JP in a front office role, but in a role I do not want to stay in. It’s not really building skills that are transferable to the roles I want in the future (except perhaps asset management), at least in my mind, as it does not involve financial analysis. I have an offer to move to DB/UBS/CS in a front office role in ER (high rated team). Should I move? Or should I stick it out at GS/MS/JP and try to internally transfer in a year or so? Is that easy to do if I my experience at GS/MS/JP is on a respected team but not one wholly relevant?
Thank you!!!!!!
I wouldn’t waste one more second in a role that doesn’t involve skill-building in an age where technical skills are absolutely required. Then there’s the fact that you seem to crave the other role but don’t want to miss out on a potential opportunity at your bank, which you deem to hold more prestige than the bank you’d move to. Tbh, when I go through ER reports, I don’t care for the bank logo on the header. I care about who wrote it and the team’s accuracy and rationality. Their capacity to tell a story is far far more important than the name of the bank, particularly if you’re speaking of GS/MS/JP vs. UBS/DB/CS imo.
I say go for it and learn from the team you’d join.
