BRING BACK WEARING SUITS

I know plenty of groups wear people don't wear suits anymore. It's pathetic. I blame the millennials. Hard times make strong men. Strong men make good times. Good times make weak men. (Or something like that)And these weak men are millennials.Anyways. I bet the Chinese wear suits and that's why they're going IN and we aren't.Put a damn suit on and take yourself more seriously. Slobs

Unfortunately for you, the genie is out of the bottle.  I would be okay with khakis and a sports jacket but then I would have to buy new clothes.  These days I wear jeans or khakis with a stylish button down shirt, which is more dressed up than for the vast majority of my clients.

Funniest

I still suit up to work to distract from the usual fact that I’m slightly hungover.

Controversial

Wearing a suit to work sucks.  100% overrated and only someone insecure would make a thread like this

Any man who knows menswear knows that a blazer IS business casual, not formal. So yeah, I still stick with formalities but these days, no one knows about it. A blazer with derbies and they call me formal. I just roll eyes.

Let's get things straight people.

Black tie - Tuxedo
Formal - Suit with plain shirt and tie. Oxfords.
Business Casual - Blazer, button down, derbies. With or without tie.
Casual - Button down or polo with nice jeans. You can just about pass with plain sneakers but NOT sports shoes
Anything else - T-shirt or sports wear?

I don’t disagree with you. Dry cleaning sucks balls. My investment committee even tends to show up in casual wear. At the risk of looking like a clown at a party, I still suit up when it’s my turn to present a deal. I want them to know I take myself and my deals seriously. The fleeting fact that I suited up is just a small part of the narrative. I’m ok that no one cares. It’s really just for myself to shift in a mode that I can do the job properly like the Marvel and DC guys.

-1 MS.  This is what rubs me the wrong way.  We pay someone literally pennies and force them to wear a suit.  Pay someone's bank millions in advisory fees and they're bitching about wearing a suit on this thread.

For the kind of fees banks get paid, you should be wearing a 3-piece suit, cuff links, and a handerchief when answering my phone call.

Unsure about the monkey shit as I'm spitting facts about how far backwards brooks brothers has gone

Back in HK, wearing comfortable business casual from Sandro, APC was the norm. Sometimes Brunello Cucinelli or Tom Ford if you felt like you wanted to dress nice or have a date afterwards

Can we also bring back dueling? Hear they still have dueling pistols somewhere in 383…

I like wearing suits too. I obviously don't keep my jacket on when working, but since I leave around 7-8 now, it's nice to be dressed up when walking / on the subway. Makes my day when I see someone checking me out.

My bank comps ubers to and from work, so I'm rarely walking around at night with a suit on luckily! I'll generally only take the subway if it's early in the day or if I'm stopping by somewhere before I go home

Fully agree with you but good quality suits wear off a lot and you do not want to rock up to anywhere civil wearing a H&M Blazer. Sorry to ruin your Christmas but you need a high quality piece Canali/Ring Jacket/Thom Sweeney or tailor-made Holland & Sherry/Vitale Barberis Canonico/Loro Piana

For me thigh area is problematic, so I end up always ordering 2 pairs of trousers, which on a big scale becomes problematic. You also need to keep your physique consistent in order to fit your inventory well and do not look like a bouncer. Now that you did all that, belts, shoes, shirts, ties and cufflinks become a big area of concern. You cannot wear a 10£ plastic shirt in an exquisite piece because a/ your sweat will make it stink and b/ it is simply disrespectful to your tailor. Also, good luck wearing crappy belt which will stain everything with the cheap paint it is made to look like leather. This is all expense on top of expense on top of expense ..

To make my point clear it is a big responsibility to wear suits properly and not everyone is ready to commit long-term but it is bloody awesome to be able to put all those together and make it work.

Yeah I just wear:

Suits

  • Brooks Brothers
  • Suit Supply
  • J Crew (Ludlow)

Shirts

  • Brooks Brothers
  • TM Lewin
  • Hawes and Curtis

Shoes

  • the ole J Murphs
  • Alfani Sleds :/

Nice to see Ring Jacket moving up the ranks
In fact, I think they're half a notch up from Canali, only if you can accept that Ring Jacket only does 3-2 roll button style
Full disclosure: I'm a straight up 2 button guy for suits, 1 button for tuxedo

At the end is a matter of choice and how you want to be portrayed to the outside world, either as someone extremely serious and sharp (suit) or as someone more relaxed and easy going (chinos, polo, etc.). The bare minimum would be suit pants and a nice shirt if you have some sense of style.

I wear nothing to the office. Completely nude.

I am quite literally, untouchable

What do you do with the tie. Also, what tie brands do you wear?

If tou actually wear Ferragamo and Hermes as your go to you can say it but if not- be honest

-sigh-its a world of slobs. It wasn't that long ago that if you went sans tie it stood out. Now, anything goes it seems. Bottom line, dress should reflect a level of respect you have for your colleagues and clients. More importantly, its a measure of the respect you have for yourself. Good luck with cargo shorts, boys...

Slip into the stylish puff sleeve jumpsuit and get ready to turn heads - as stylish as it gets!

I recently started working at a tech company and the change in (or lack thereof for the most part) dress code has been so nice. I usually wear a casual oxford or ralph lauren t shirt, some sort of light jacket or outer layer (both for styling and function since I'm in bay area now), chinos or jeans, and comfortable shoes. Moving to such low maintenance and comfortable clothing has been a godsend once you get past the 1-2 days that it feels weird doing business wearing the same clothes you'd wear to meet up with friends or go out

No - bring back the victorian hats and make women wear corsets and dresses. No, in fact, make men wear wigs.

Times are changing, so shut the fuck up and go with the flow.

Yeah... Times are changing- becoming worse. The world needs another crisis for over sensitive people to toughen up and accept realities and moving the fuck on to better times.

I’m 20 Gen-z sorry hate my generation too. I’m a student (Finance) I’ll put on a suit once twice a week every other week but I’m never in casual clothes- won’t show up to class in tracksuit or house clothes always smartly dressed.

I wear a suit, when I’m not wearing a suit it’s shirt and suit trousers or shirt and jeans or I go with more of smart casual, T-shirts & suit trousers, or T-shirt and suit with either loafers or nice leather shoes (no trainers)
