CFA Society Meeting Dress Code Advice

I’m going to a CFA open house that’s primarily meant for current CFA candidates. The email says that the dress code is “business casual”. Would it be overkill to wear a suit and tie? I’ve got a nice custom dark grey suit and I think I pull it off nice.

Dress shirt and pants feels to casual. I only have two sports jackets, a solid navy one and a navy textured houndstooth.

Would I look like a total goober if I pull up in a nice suit or should I stick to a sports coat. I still look pretty damn good in the houndstooth jacket but I’m not sure if I’ll look to casual. I’m going to the event to network and hopefully get closer to a IB internship.

I've found that sportcoat + dress pants + dress shoes + and no tie is almost always acceptable in any situation where you don't know the dress code. It doesn't look overkill if others are dressed more casually, whereas a suit probably would. Also, if dress code is more strict than this, you will almost certainly know beforehand because they will say "suits and ties required".
