Summer Analyst Attire
I'm currently putting together a wardrobe for the summer. I'm going to be interning at a BB on the West Coast this summer, and I want to make sure that I dress appropriately. I only own one suit right now, and it's pretty baggy and not fitted. I don't have the best fashion sense, so I would appreciate some advice. Thank you!
I was thinking, in total, I should have these items:
2 Suits (Navy and Grey)
2 Pants (Black and Blue)
7 Shirts
5 Ties
1-2 Belts (Black)
1 Pair of Shoes
5 pairs of plain socks
Here is what I have purchased so far:
Got these on sale for $60 last week.
Picked these up today on sale for $195 at a Nordstrom near me.
I am looking into these 2 suits right now:
I was thinking Tie Bar for the ties and Amazon for the socks.
Thank you for your help!
Do brown shoes work?
I've been reading on WSO a bit on this. I think brown shoes don't work. Black is safest from what I can tell.
Black is safer, more conservative, if you are only going to have one pair. Brown can definitely work with most greys and blues, but would probably go black. And you can always add brown to your rotation down the road if you notice others wearing brown.
If I were you I would do at least 3 pants and max 2 ties. Most of the time you’ll be in a button up and dress pants so you don’t need multiple ties but you do need multiple pants
So each suit comes with a pair of pants, and I bought 2 pairs of pants from Bonobos. Are the pants that come with suits, and the ones I bought, different?
You can wear suit pants without the jacket/tie and they will function the same as regular dress pants.
following
You should ask someone in the group what the dress code is. A lot of SF banks are in t shirts or polos these days
Not true - don't listen to this guy. SF is still dress shirts and slacks.
This but in linen. Especially important if you work in O&G or travel to the Austin/Dallas/Houston offices
And maybe some cowboy boots.
Worked in Hou - have absolutely worn dressy black cowboy boots to the office
Everyone in Houston also just wears cowboy boots right? Looking to grab myself a pair for next summer
should ties be a single color?
Ima be honest chief, i interned at jpm last summer and bought 2 suits; thats plenty. Also bought that 500$ suit supply suit, its lowkey shit . I got a Spier & Mackay suit i like a lot more. Black shoes are nice but also having a pair of brown ones are clutch. Id recommend lulu navy pants. You will probably wear a full suit like 3 times total. The first day (everyone will tell u to take off the tie and jacket) the mid summer review, and the day of your summer analyst presentation. I’d pick up like 6 charles tywritt button ups can usually get the 3 for 99$ sale. Happy to answer any mire questions
This was exactly my experience. We wore suits more often but it wasn’t required, even so 2 suits was plenty, almost always without tie. Take the advice above.
Could you elaborate on why the Suit Supply suit was bad?
Also, when getting button up shirts, which ones from CT (type and color) do you recommend? Are patterns on the CT shirt frowned upon, or should I be more conservative and get 3 of the exact same plain blue shirts and 3 of the exact same plain white shirts?
Going to SA in PC next summer and business formal dress code is somewhat foreign to me.
I bought 2 white shirts and two powder blue shirts but most of my shirts that i wore were the patterned ones i think those look best without a tie on. Exact ones are SF White Non-Iron Poplin Shirt, SF Sky Blue Non-Iron Poplin Shirt, SF Cornflower Blue Non-Iron Twill Mini Grid Check Shirt, etc. id say they run pretty large so get your size and if youre like avg weight id get slim fit.
Suit supply suit was just mid, nothing to write home about. I think im salty because i wore my banker bag on my side to work and it totally destroyed the right side of my suit supply pants, didnt destroy any of my other suit pants
Hey, I’m gonna be an SA at JPM this summer.
I’ve been looking at Charles Tyrwhitt dress shirts but not sure what collar would go best with no tie. What did you opt for?
