UK shoe shops
hi there,
have FT starting in Aug, still need to buy black oxfords; any suggestions where to buy from? budget around £110-120, ideally want them to last a couple of years at least without looking too clunky
cheers!

Career Resources
Loake's Oxford are the ones I have around that price point, they look good and come with the Goodyear welt.
If you can bump up your budget slightly, I would consider Meermin, Spanish brand for 170 EUR / pair. Very excellent quality, break-in can be rough.
Do be aware that some people have had terrible customer service experiences with them.
I find you cannot go wrong with Clarks. There is 0 break in time, super comfy and they look serviceable for work shoes.
From my experience, a good guide:
Jones Bootmaker / Clarkes are your most basic (maybe for interning or MO/BO roles)
Loake (solid quality for analyst 1 level)
Grenson (better quality for analyst 2 above)
Chruchs (best quality for associate and above)
Of course if you can afford the better brands, definitely go ahead. Investing in a few pairs of churchs (if you can afford) is a great idea, I was given a pair as a gift and they lasted me 5 years before I got bored of them
Tips: get the soles re-soled (Timpsons do a good job) and invest in some leather cream and use it once a month or whenever polishing. Both will extend the life materially
Wouldn't buy Church's - when I last went to local shoe store, was told how they recently moved most of production away from UK to China and quality has decreased
Loake Aldwych sounds like the shoe you are looking for
Meermin as mentioned is good alternative for quality shoe, but personally found them too uncomfortable (very hard to break in) / off sizing
Carmina is a personal favourite, prefer the slightly sleeker style and it is excellent quality, although of course at a higher price point but even as an Analyst I would rather invest in proper shoes
Not sure where you heard that but not seen or heard anything about Church's made in China. They still promote being made in England (Northampton) as they always have.
Stand by them being among the best to get with my personal experience
Personally have found Church's to have been great quality but then not sure if I got it before or after Prada takeover. I still hear and see Churchs as a top quality option so would still consider it, but there are many others also (Barkers another good choice)
Velasca is a great brand at 150-200 and they have shops in both London and NYC. Good quality and 20% all summer
