I am starting my IB internship in a couple of months and was wondering if a Cartier Tank Must XL (>$4000) would be okay to wear at my internship? As well, I have a Submariner and GMT (~$10,000) and was wondering if I can wear either of those if I secure my FT position? Little bit of an enthusiast, would love to talk watches below. Thank you!

Cartier won't hold value. Entry level rolex like oyster perpetual should be ok.
The Cartier has held its value, so far gone up ~$700 from retail. Not crazy ROI, but solid. I definitely do not expect it to retain much value in the long run. OPs are so hard to get retail now, love the new dials. I am excited to see the Rolex announcement at the end of this month.

Looks like you already have these watches. No, your candidacy won't be affected wearing these watches at work. Unless you're showing them off, as a watch enthusiast even, I'd consider them to be pretty under the radar with a standard work outfit. I've seen interns with subs or the likes who crush it and we paid no attention to the watch. I get that you're worried about coming across as flashy but don't think about it too much and if you still feel uncomfortable, just don't wear it. As long as you just have it on your wrist and let your work and personality do the speaking for you, you will be just fine.

Follow-up questions: If I see colleagues wearing nice watches, can I comment and talk about watches with them? Should I not talk about their watch to not talk about mine? Also, if they have a nicer watch than mine (PP, AP, AL&S, FPJ, etc…) would I be able to talk to them then? What watch do you wear and what is your favourite?
I think I am going to stick with the Cartier and wait it out a bit, more understated, it has a better story as well.
So just avoid the watch talk if you're not comfortable, which it seems like. If someone has a patek or something I'd usually say it's fine to engage in some watch talk but if you're not comfortable or feel you need guidance on this, probably best avoid given you don't want to come across as deliberate or awkward. Maybe read the group first and then decide for yourself. But definitely don't bring up watches if you want to talk about your watch.
I primarily wear a JLC master ultra thin moon and an omega seamaster aqua terra, with the first being my favorite and the latter being my choice if I'm ever doing anything where there's even a chance of the watch being banged up or whatever.

I'd love to own a Ferrari or a mclaren some day. More realistically, I'd really enjoy a high end 911 or Aston Martin vantage. I guess time will tell. Also yea, I'm actually just getting into F1 by watching the netflix series.
As a fellow watch enthusiast, I was concerned if I should wear my Speedmaster at my first IB job right out of college (graduation gift). I did, and no one has commented about it. I even wore it to my first in-person interview for a PE role and got the job. Just enjoy your watches and wear them as they are supposed to.

It's great to hear that you've had positive experiences wearing your Speedmaster to work and interviews. As long as the workplace dress code permits it and you feel comfortable wearing it, there's no reason not to enjoy your watches and incorporate them into your daily attire.
I am a watch enthusiast too, but I have Seikos and some microbrand watches. I think you should be fine. Nobody ever notices my watches, and if they do they are enthusiasts as well. You should wear what you like. I would definitely comment on a cool watch and strike up a conversation.
I would keep it at the Cartier. I wore an IWC Portugieser during my internship and it was fine. A Sub is kind of a 'f*ck you' watch so I'd say hold off on wearing it until you get FT.

Hahaha just imagine some kid walking in with a skeleton RM which quite frankly goes with nothing unless you're an F1 driver/other athlete who's sponsored by them. Everyone and their mother would notice those pieces whether you like watches or not. Absolutely screams ostentatious and you're here to flex.

Since you have both brands I would suggest wearing the Cartier (a bit more understated and great under a suit). Just out of caution I would avoid wearing a Rolex as an intern, as some people may mistake you for a spoiled kid (I'm a watch enthusiast myself and personally see nothing wrong with owning a Rolex but unfortunately some people automatically classify it as 'douchy').
When I was an intern, there were a few people around the office rocking some killer watches (5711s, 5196P, rolex explorer I etc.); I complimented them about it and everyone was super happy and eager to talk about watches, so definitely do it if you have the chance.
