Looks like:
3*3 = 9
9 (+ 5) = 14
14 (- 2) = 12
12*3 = 36
36 (+ 5) = 41
41 (- 2) = 39
So next number is 39? Then continue the process of multiplying by 3, adding 5, subtracting 2. Not entirely sure and could theorize a few other ways but this is first thought.

edit - haha nvm, for some reason on step 3. was doing 3 * 4 + 2= 14, I'm thinking it might be something like the above as a recursive function
