Check out the FMI program there. It's your best bet for breaking into IB at State and has placed students at Barclays, Blair, Cowen, and Wells, among other firms. Many Broad grads doing IB / PE end up in CHI or DET, but there are some in NY, SF, etc.
How good would you say the FMI program is? Like is it making the best of a not good school or would you say it’s actually quite decent?
I've heard really positive things from people who've done FMI. I'd choose it over non-Ross at UM or any other in-state school, for the sake of comparison. Check out the website if you want more info: https://broad.msu.edu/undergraduate/opportunities/fmi/.
Alright, thanks for the help, I’d never heard of their FMI program so you showed me. Have you met many people in IB from there?
For sure. Yeah, I know a few. Feel free to PM if you have any additional questions.
MSU finance grad here and I highly recommend FMI if you end up at Michigan State. Lots of alumni connections that are focused on getting more students into high finance from MSU. Most grads end up with jobs in Chicago but some venture out to NYC and SF (Wells Fargo). Biggest pipeline for IB is probably MM in Chicago.
Do you know anything about how competitive it is to get into FMI?
Since it's grown in popularity, it definitely has become more competitive. 4 rounds of applications/tests/interviews. Usually take 8-10 people from 50-70 applicants per semester.
