Equity vs Distressed Debt HF
Please help me decide which career path to pursue:
I'm a senior; strong bulge bracket internship experience, going to a small restructuring boutique after I graduate (think Ducera). I'm unsure which path to take - distressed debt at a HF or equity investing at a HF? What are the pros and cons? I've always thought I would be pursuing distressed debt investing but it seems like the spots left at elite distressed funds is decreasing rapidly as the space itself shrinks and returns stagnate (see Anchorage, Monarch, King Street). I'm not really interested in performing credit or CLO investing.
On the other hand, don't really know if top activist equity hedge funds or even L/S equity funds recruit from the smaller but still elite rx boutiques. I do find equity investing pretty interesting as well.
Any advice would be appreciated.
